Live updates from Gaza/Israel: Reports indicate that 22 individuals have perished in the Rafah strikes, with 18 of them being children.

The IDF has stated that it targeted military installations belonging to terrorist organizations in Gaza.

Israel launched a retaliatory strike against Iran early Friday morning local time, a senior US official told ABC News.

According to Israeli military officials, Tehran sent more than 300 drones and missiles at Israeli targets after the Iranian attack on Saturday. All but a few have been blocked by Israel and its allies, including the United States, officials said.

Iran's weekend attack comes more than six months after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on October 7, after which the Israeli military began bombing Gaza.

Israeli officials said the country's Iron Dome defence system withstood a major test from Iran's attack on Saturday, intercepting 99% of the 300 "various types of threats" fired at it.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched 170 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), more than 120 ballistic missiles and more than 30 cruise missiles in the attack, according to Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari.

"99% of threats directed at Israeli territory have been deterred -- a very important strategic achievement," Hagar said.

Hagari said the attack resulted in only one known Israeli casualty, a 7-year-old girl seriously injured when she was apparently hit by a missile.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant discussed with IDF Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi a developing report of US intentions to impose sanctions against the IDF's Netzach Yehuda Battalion, an Israeli military unit operating in the West Bank.

"Any attempt to criticise an entire unit casts a heavy shadow over the actions of the IDF, which works to protect the citizens of Israel," Gallant said in a statement. "The loss of one battalion affects the entire defence establishment - this is not the right path for partners and friends."

Gallant urged the US not to impose sanctions on the unit.

"Our friends and our enemies are closely monitoring the relationship between Israel and the United States, now more than ever," Gallant said. "I call on the US administration to withdraw its intention to impose sanctions on the Netzach Yehuda battalion."

Amid reports of possible sanctions, Gallant recently completed a call with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Earlier today, Minister Gallant also held talks with US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew.

Rafah attack reports 22 dead: Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.

ABC News said two strikes hit the southern Gaza city of Rafah, killing 22 people, including 18 children, according to reports from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. A spokesman for the Kuwait Hospital in Rafah told ABC News that an explosion occurred in the Al-Shabora refugee camp in the city of Rafah.

Doctors at the hospital were able to save an unborn baby whose mother, Sabreen Mohammed al-Saqani, was killed in an explosion in the al-Shabora camp. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack to ABC News, saying they targeted the terrorist organization's military compounds, launch sites and several military objectives of armed militants in Gaza.
Israeli forces withdrew after a day-long operation in the Nur Shams area of the West Bank's Tulkarm camp killed 14 "terrorists," the Israel Defense Forces said.

The IDF said in a statement that Israel Border Police forces "conducted extensive counter-terrorism operations based on IDF and ISA (Israel Security Authority) intelligence in the Nur Shams area."

During the operation, which began on Friday, "forces eliminated 14 terrorists in close combat, arrested 15 suspects, recovered numerous weapons and destroyed two terrorist explosives laboratories, along with dozens of explosive devices," according to the IDF statement.

The IDF said all of the terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli forces.

Nine IDF soldiers and an Israel Border Police officer have suffered "mild to moderate" injuries in the fighting since the operation began, according to the IDF.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society, the West Bank's first response service, also said 14 people were killed as a result of the operation.
