Members of the National Security Committee of the parliament, Shahriar Heidari, said to Tasnim News Agency on Sunday that the aircraft will arrive in Iran in the upcoming Iranian year, which starts on March 21.

Heidari claims that Tehran has also placed orders with Russia for a variety of additional military hardware, the majority of which will shortly come, such as air defence systems, missile systems, and helicopters.

In order to improve their military, trade, energy, and economic ties, Iran and Russia have recently signed a number of significant accords.

Extensive Western sanctions have been imposed on both countries: Iran since the US unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement with other major powers, and Russia since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in February.

In an effort to support their economy, the two nations have increased their collaboration in strategic areas in response to the sanctions.

With the exception of a few Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters that it bought in the 1990s, Iran has not recently acquired any modern combat aircraft.

The two nations signed a deal in 2007 to buy Russia's S-300 anti-missile system, however due to Moscow's adherence to a UNSC resolution condemning Iran's nuclear programme, the transfer of the system was halted in 2010.

The agreement was reopened for discussion in 2015, just before Iran and the major nations signed their nuclear accord.

In May 2016, Iran's Ministry of Defence subsequently verified that the Islamic nation was "in possession of the strategic S-300 system."

Russia sent an Iranian satellite into orbit on August 9, prompting warnings from US media that Moscow would use it to increase its monitoring of military targets in Ukraine. Iran later denied the accusations.
